Muslim association sues Canada Revenue Agency

April 13, 2022 | Ottawa – The Muslim Association of Canada is suing the Canada Revenue Agency for an audit that the charitable organization says violates its rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

The association is filing an application at the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto on Wednesday.

The lawsuit was triggered by an audit by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) in 2015. A copy was sent to the association in March last year for review and comment. Because of the audit, the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) fears losing its charitable status, which it’s had since 1999.
