Muslim Association of Canada Condemns the Attack on the Jewish Community in Australia

Canadian Muslims know, painfully and personally, the fear and impact terror attacks on faith communities and innocent families inflict. From the Quebec City Mosque shooting to the killing of the Afzal family in London, our community understands how such violence erodes a sense of safety and belonging. We also know, from the experience of Christchurch Mosque shootings, that terror attacks on minority religious communities reverberate far beyond borders, binding diaspora communities.

That need for safety, and the fight against hate that Muslims continue to advocate for, must be guaranteed to every person and every community.

The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) offers its condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in the horrific attack targeting the Jewish community in Australia on Bondi Beach. We share in the sorrow with the Jewish community during this time of profound grief.

This attack, carried out against families and community members gathered on a Jewish holy day, is an act of terror that must be unequivocally condemned. Violence against people while they gather and pray in places of worship, or while celebrating their faith in public is an assault on the dignity and safety of all communities.

At moments like this, solidarity matters. It is heartening to see Australian Muslims coming together to support the Jewish community in the face of this hate, recognizing that no community should face violence alone.

MAC rejects all forms of extremism and hatred that seek to divide us. These acts do not represent faith. They represent the corrosive impact of systemic racism and dehumanization, whether Islamophobia or antisemitism, which must be confronted collectively and without hesitation.
