Jerusalem Studies Program The Noon Academy for Jerusalem Studies and Research provides an advanced, specialized program designed to equip participants with both foundational and in-depth knowledge regarding the historical, conceptual, and contemporary dimensions of Jerusalem. The program also develops the essential research, analytical, and critical thinking skills necessary for contributions in academia, practical applications, and social activism, with a focus on the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem in particular. The curriculum is organized into distinct academic tracks, offering a mix of courses that address various aspects of Jerusalem studies. Instruction is delivered via both direct seminars and online learning platforms, culminating in face-to-face sessions with instructor to ensure a comprehensive educational experience. To obtain a diploma, participants must complete the required number of accredited study units, each corresponding to a 50-minute instructional period. Additionally, students are expected to dedicate twice the amount of time to independent study, including preparation, review, and course-related assignments.

Program Levels

 

Foundation Level:

This level offers the essential foundational knowledge necessary for all students, regardless of their specific area of focus within the program, even those with prior background in this subject area. At the end of this level, students are required to go through a comprehensive assessment with a minimum score of 75% on the test. Students who successfully complete this level will be prepared to advance to more specialized coursework. The curriculum includes general material designed to provide a broad understanding of key concepts, history, and current situation related to Jerusalem.

Foundation Level Curriculum (General Training Phase)

This phase provides participants with essential knowledge required to comprehend the basics of Jerusalem studies and the Palestinian cause. The coursework focuses on developing participants’ critical thinking abilities, with particular emphasis on how to analyze, interpret, and source information effectively. Those who complete this level receive a Certificate of Basic Training in Jerusalem Studies Upon completion of this level, students will:

Be able to identify and utilize main primary and secondary sources relevant to Jerusalem studies.

Possess foundational theoretical knowledge concerning the history and contemporary issues of Jerusalem.

Develop a structured understanding of the city’s historical trajectory, particularly through non-orientalist lenses.

This level comprises 15 instructional hours, addressing core themes such as the role of Jerusalem in Islamic tradition, its geography, and key historical periods. The coursework also introduces critical aspects of Jerusalem’s contemporary situation, including its education and housing sectors, as well as ongoing challenges such as Judaization, as following:
