Ramadan 1447 Announcement

Ramadan 1447 Announcement

L'Association musulmane du Canada est heureuse d'annoncer que Wednesday, February 18e, 2026, will be the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH, inshaAllah. This determination follows the moon-sighting criteria adopted by the Fiqh Council of North America.

Ramadan arrives each year not simply as a change in routine, but as a moment of moral clarity. It comes to interrupt our habits, re-center our priorities, and ask us difficult but necessary questions about who we are becoming. In a world marked by instability, contradiction, and selective application of values, Ramadan calls the believer to pause, reflect, and return to what is essential.

This sacred month is not only about restraint from food and drink, but about restraint from inconsistency, apathy, and moral fatigue. It is a time when Allah ﷻ invites us to align our inner convictions with our outward actions, and to recommit ourselves to a faith that is lived with purpose and discipline.

Allah ﷻ reminds us of the essence of this month when He says:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

“O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may attain taqwa.”(Qur’an 2:183)

Theme of the month: Istiqāmah

Ramadan is not a season of emotion and Taqwa is not a temporary state.  This is why the theme of Istiqāmah: steadfastness, is inseparable from Ramadan itself.

فَاسْتَقِمْ كَمَا أُمِرْتَ وَمَن تَابَ مَعَكَ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ

“So be steadfast as you are commanded ˹O Prophet˺, along with those who turn ˹in submission to Allah˺ with you. And do not transgress” (Qur’an 11:112)

The Prophet ﷺ raised people of principle, not performance. Istiqāmah is quiet faithfulness when no one is watching.

Ramadan teaches us that worship is not reactive, justice is not selective, and faith is not negotiated based on comfort or approval. It calls us to integrity in private before public, and sincerity in intention before outward expression.

At the same time, Ramadan expands our awareness beyond ourselves. Hunger reconnects us to the vulnerable. Prayer reconnects us to the oppressed. The Qur’an reconnects us to our responsibilities as witnesses to truth. May this blessed month renew our hearts, strengthen our resolve, and anchor us in Istiqāmah long after Ramadan has passed. May Allah ﷻ accept our fasting, our prayers, and our efforts, and make us among those whose faith is consistent, whose actions are sincere, and whose lives reflect the light of guidance.
