MAC Convention 2026 Concludes Successfully with Record Attendance
Mississauga, Ontario — May 25, 2026
The Muslim Association of Canada (MAC) expresses gratitude for the successful conclusion of MAC Convention 2026, which brought together thousands of Muslim Canadians over three days of scholarship, dialogue, and community. The 2026 Convention marks a year of growth in both attendance and impact.
This year’s convention, themed Living with Purpose: Upholding the Way of Allah, explored the Qur’anic concept of sibghatullah which is the idea that Islam is a complete way of life that imbues the Muslim character and shapes a Muslim’s choices, and contribution to the world. Across dozens of sessions spanning Islamic scholarship, family life, youth identity, and community responsibility, attendees engaged deeply with questions of faith and purpose.
Challenges Faced and Overcome
MAC Convention 2026 was not without difficulty. In an unprecedented development, some of the convention’s international speakers were subjected to coordinated targeting by the Canada Border Services Agency, with visas denied or revoked, and scholars subjected to hours of interrogation at the border. MAC is working with the Government of Canada and the CBSA to get a transparent account of these actions and to address systemic bias in the agency.
Despite these disruptive efforts, the convention proceeded and thrived. The community showed up in greater numbers than ever and all speakers participated in person or virtually. Canadian Muslims will not be deterred from gathering, learning, and speaking openly about their faith.
Key Messages of the Convention
Across the convention, a clear and consistent message emerged from scholars, intellectuals, and community leaders: Muslim Canadians carry a threefold responsibility.
A duty to this country, fulfilled through active contribution in every sphere of life: charitable, academic, civic, and political. A duty to the global Muslim Ummah, fulfilled by thinking beyond individual and local concerns, and beyond the limits of existing structures. And a duty to humanity at large, fulfilled by upholding the dignity of every human being, speaking the truth, and standing for justice wherever it is denied.
The convention provided a platform for diverse voices and perspectives, and we are grateful to every scholar and guest who contributed to those conversations. The views expressed by individual speakers are their own, but the exchange of ideas, the rigorous discussion of difficult questions, and the diversity of thought on display are precisely what makes this gathering valuable. That is what intellectual and religious life looks like when it is healthy and free.
These were nuanced, contextualized conversations and we invite the public to engage with them fully. MAC regularly shares content through our online learning platforms, and full session recordings will be made available. We encourage anyone who was not present, including those who have formed opinions based on secondhand accounts, to watch, listen, and become part of the conversation themselves.
A Community That Continues
Above all, MAC Convention 2026 was a celebration of community, families, children, youth, new Muslims, scholars, and thousands of engaged citizens coming together with purpose.
MAC thanks the thousands of attendees, the volunteers, the scholars who overcame significant obstacles to be present, and the broader community whose support made this convention successful.
